I go regularly with my family to the Lompoc Aquatic Center. My son is 3 1/2 and just getting used the water and the fun it can bring. My drive is no more than 25 min. so the trek is worth it. It is safe and pretty exciting, especially when the huge bucket of water drops on everyone!

This is a county park along the Santa Ynez river. If you walk under the rusty railroad bridge, you can walk to the ocean. This path is closed from 1 March until 1 Oct. however, for the Snowy Plover breeding season. However, you can enjoy the picnic area, playground, and bathrooms year round.

One is Ocean Beach Park, which is maintained by Santa Barbara County, just off of Ocean (Hwy. 246) at the mouth of the Santa Ynez River. The other, actual Surf Beach is where the Lompoc Amtrak station is, about a mile south--this is the geographic Surf Beach, with the nearby County park a mere tagalong namesake.
